Shannon Academy and JYC specialise in internships that focus on personal development, improved learning performance, increased self-empowerment and confidence, broader understanding of practices and policies in a work environment, as well as increased opportunities for professional and career development.
Our philosophy is simple: We get to know each intern first and place them in an internship that meets their needs, while supporting them every step of the way. The key to our success? We care! We care about each individual student and his or her needs, and we assist every
student in reaching their full potential.
Our approach has worked for hundreds of interns, giving experience and confidence to tomorrow’s leaders.
OUR PROCESS
- Initial Contact and Assessment: The student sends us a Curriculum Vitae along with a cover letter. We then contact the student via Skype and conduct an informal interview/chat. This helps us understand their goals, identify their skills, and assess personality types. We are conscious that each individual student has their own specific requirements.
- Placement Selection: Once we have gathered all the required information, we select the best fit for each student. This will depend on the student’s current field of study, their previous experience and their aims during the internship.
- Internship Information: Once we have confirmed the internship company, we contact the student with all the relevant
information. We arrange accommodation if required. On arrival in Athlone, we meet the intern and provide orientation to the local area. Shannon Academy provides a handbook for interns to assist them in integrating into their role as an intern. We escort them to their placement on the first day and follow up with ongoing visits and support. - Evaluation: Every intern must submit a final project before completing their internship. This project will be assessed and graded by Shannon Academy. This will include a written study along with a presentation on the individual internship. The project, along with the certificate of completion, will be forwarded to the intern’s university supervisor.
